It’s supposed to be a children’s book, but really I think it’s a book for all ages. An incredibly poignant story that reminds us to take care of our environment from an author who leads by example. Dora, of the flaming orange hair and taste for Nile-green dresses, runs the brothel with clockwork efficiency and a generous heart.

What he knows for sure is that humans impact this perfect world. It’s not a typical children’s book, reading more like a fairytale than anything else with it’s jaw droppingly beautiful prose, even when describing tragedy and pain.
The intended audience for this short work is not at all clear. Her days have fallen into domestic tedium and social isolation. Penguin presents Roald Dahl’s classic Danny the Champion of the Worldread with real warmth by the actor and comedian Peter Serafinowicz. A pleasant and very sentimental but, alas, unexceptional novella with heavy ecological themes.
It is now and I have just reread this gem for the umpteenth time. Blueback is one of those beautiful cross over books written fro children, but with so much to offer adults as well.
